Case 1
A 34-year-old male. Skin rash appeared in elbows, knees and hands, which spread also to his face, e.g. on his eye-lids. Patient did not complain muscle symptoms, but EMG suggested myositis. Muscle biopsy from m. vastus lateralis.

62-year-old female. Over some months her over all condition had become progressively worse. Brain MRI disclosed a malignant looking multifocal neoplasm. Specimen from the tumor.

65-year-old male. Ten months ago fell and was somehow unconscious (according to his wife). Thereafter progressively memory problems and impaired executive functions. On sick leave since 6 months back. For the past 2-3 months posterior headache and dizziness. CT done 1 month ago, which revealed cerebellar tumor, possibly metastasis. Neurosurgical operation one week later. Specimen from cerebellar tumor. H&E

A 60-year-old male. Hypertonia, depression, periodically substantial alcohol drinking, wear and tear of cervical spine. Seven months prior to his death repeated brain infarcts multifocally with correspondingly variable cerebrovascular symptoms. No source of emboli was discovered. Cerebral vasculitis was suspected. About 2.5. weeks before death a brain biopsy was taken from left parieto-occipital cortex, which revealed the disease. Here autopsy specimen from the biopsied area. H&E

66-year-old female. Hypertonia and type II diabetes. 4.5 years prior to death problems with balance. Spinal stenosis operated, but unstable walking, incontinence and slurred speech continued. Two years prior to death MRI disclosed atrophy of cerebellum and brain stem. Patient had become confined to wheelchair. In the morning found unconscious in bed at the hospital. Possible epileptic seizure and aspiration pneumonia. Remains unconscious until death a couple of days later. Specimen from cerebellum and medulla.

Case 6
A 64 year old male who died after eight years of disease duration. In the family there are 10 individuals with similar clinical picture, which compatible with Alzheimer disease memory problems being the first symptom I 9 of the 10 patients. The age of onset ranged from 52 to 62 years with mean 56.9 years.

Case 7
60-year-old female, who has suffered from bipolar psychiatric disorder and asthma. After a lesser ortopedic operation in general anesthesia, she had severe bronchoconstriction, which reacted to medication. Next morning she was found dead in her bed. Resuscitated, CT showed multiple infarctions in cerebellum and bilaterally in basal ganglia and hippocampi. She remained unconscious and was declared brain dead. Specimen from hippocampus.
